Tooth Strippage
Section or sections of teeth which broke from the band backing.
Probable Cause:
- Improper Tooth Pitch. #1 Cause of tooth strippage
- Band saw is a wood cutting saw. Wood cutting saws will run an average of 800-3500 surface feet a min (sfm). Metal cutting saws are designed to run from 40-300 sfm. When running a Bi-Metal Blades at high speeds like a wood machine runs, tooth strippage will occur easily.
- Teeth got hot causing the teeth to strip.
- Improper or lack of break-in procedure.
- Worn, missing or improperly positioned chip brush.
- Excessive feeding rate or feed pressure. (Learn more)
- Movement or vibration of material being cut.

- Improper positioning of material being cut.
- Insufficient sawing fluid due to inadequate supply, improper ratio and/or improper application.
- Hard spots in material being cut.
- Band speed too slow for grade of material being cut.
